Government of snails

We have reached a point where our Government only works to make trending topics for Twitter. Their last occurrence was lowering 10 mph the speed limit on highways, a measure decided by our Home Affairs Minister, Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba, five minutes before of the cabinet meeting, as he recognized later in a press conference. His pretext was that the uprisings in Arab countries threaten fuel supplies in Spain and he does it to save energy, althought everyone knows that the Government does it to raise traffic tickets.

I don't even want to imagine what would have told socialist addicted press if a right-wing government had approved a measure as retrograde as this one. In this case, however, they have applauded with their ears. To be honest, I think today's ridiculous editorial of El Pais has been written by Rubalcaba himself.

In any neighbor country, decisions made by our Government in the last year would have disqualified Socialist Party to rule in the next 50 years: anti-smoking law, anti-downloading law, alarm status, extension of retirement age, freezing pensions, lowering conditions to be fired and so on. In Spain, this kind of laws are just trending topics for a couple of days, but people forget very quickly, what makes me envy Arab countries.
